Public observations from this morning in Avalanche Gulch showed clear skies, light wind, and an inch or two of newer snow (pictures with clear skies below). Above Lake Helen reports are that the snow surface appears scoured with some wind-board (dense, supportable, wind-pressed snow). Apparently some decent turns were had in the gullies by these gentlemen around 10-11 a.m. Look for the rippled texture.
The forecaster was late to the party, and leaving Bunny Flat at 2:00 p.m. experienced cooling temperatures, increasing clouds, and snow flurries (a welcome change of weather). Below 9,000' only about an inch of fresh snow was observed, and this only marginally improved the skiing. Snow was starting to accumulate as I transitioned at 9,000' and winds were ramping up out of the WNW. The new snow stayed on the cold and dry side over the past 24 hours and I didn't encounter any glopping or sticky/moist snow. I also managed not to hit any rocks.
Hopefully we get enough snow (and not as much wind) out of this little system to fill in the bumps and tracks and give us some smooth turns by tomorrow afternoon!
