OHV grant proposal for Shasta-Trinity National Forests

REDDING, Calif. — The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is submitting applications to request grant funds from the State of California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVR) to enhance and manage motorized recreation in the area.

The Mt. Shasta Avalanche Center Education Project will allow the Forest Service and the Friends of the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center (FS partner) to fund staff to collect avalanche data and provide updated forecasts 7 days a week during the winter season, maintain seven forecasting weather stations, and deliver classroom and field-based snowmobile avalanche education classes.  This project will provide education patrols and field presence in local snowmobile riding areas, continue to support the volunteer snowmobile ambassador program which helps to foster positive relationships between snowmobiler’s and non-motorized users.

Preliminary grant applications will be submitted to the OHMVR Division by March 4, 2024. The public will be able to comment on the preliminary applications from March 5 to May 6, 2024, by logging onto California State website. Final applications must be submitted by June 3, 2024.
