General Conditions

The Hotlum Glacier is in good shape right now. That said, as is the objective problem every year: as we are now into the summer months, existing snow bridges over crevasses become weak. Some are completely exposed, some are not. Some guided trips have found open crevasses great for rescue training recently. Be careful where the glacier begins below the Hotlum Headwall. Rocks constantly peel off this prominent rock face. The route up the glacier can take many variations. Glacial travel and rescue experience required!

Most approach this route from the Brewer Creek trailhead. Camping at the "Hotlum Hilton" is a good spot as there is often a glacial tarn available for water. This is the case now.
