General Conditions

Set out for a mountain patrol out from the Brewer Creek trailhead up the Hotlum snowfield. Currently, one will have to carry skis to around 9,000 feet, or about 1 to 2 hours on foot. From 9,000 feet and up, easy skinning can be found. The overall snowfield is smooth for this time of year, but on the mushy side of things. Talking with climbers and skiers, the freeze level was around 11,000 feet. Above that, the skiing was great. Below the freeze line, you will want waterskis for the slush and mush.  Snow is still holding across the traverse from the Hotlum to the Upper Wintun. Climber reports observed very few rocks and fun skiing all overall.  Some water can be found on the climbers right-hand side of the mesa camp around 10,000 feet.
