North Side - Hotlum/Bolam
General Conditions
6-11-22
Access to the Northgate trailhead is open, the road is a bit rough, but a 2wd vehicle can make it in. The trailhead is stocked with summit passes, wilderness permits and wag bags. Restrooms and trash is available.
The trail is mostly free of snow to the typical camping area that climbers use at ~9,700 feet. Some dry tent sites are available. Water is flowing well. In the past, rangers have seen little glacial worms in the Hotlum water course...might be worth a look and a treatment of iodine, boil or filter. Drink at your own risk.
Icy patches are starting to show on the route. In these areas, one must not fall. Most climbing groups are climbing up through the rocks and then to the ramp. Groups from this weekend didn't make it very high due to clouds, poor visibility and wind. The routes on this side of the mountain are not for novices. Give rangers a call for detailed questions.
