You are here
South Side/Lake Helen
The south side of Mount Shasta is completely snow-free now. These routes are best done when there is snow and are not recommended due to loose rock at this time. If you want to climb Mount Shasta, look into the Clear Creek route on the mountain's east side.
Lake Helen can still be a nice hike from either Bunny Flat or the Old Ski Bowl. There is clean spring water available at the Sierra Alpine Hut (horse camp). Above that, water is available at Lake Helen, but it will need to be treated.
As always, whatever you pack in, please pack out. Rangers pack out a lot of trash, and it's helpful when people do their part.
