Recent Observations:
Check out the recent observation (2.4.22) from the south side HERE. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. In just a couple words, the conditions are becoming scrappy out there in the mountains. Ugh. There is dirt showing at Bunny Flat, the snow is filthy and surfaces are not smooth. Moraines and ridges have exposed rock. Snow surfaces are generally firm, but south facing slopes above treeline did soften yesterday around the noon hour. In December, the mountain was dressed up in a gorgeous white dress and headed to the fancy ball. Now, it looks like she had a rough night out and slept in the ditch.

Currently, you couldn't buy an avalanche. The main hazards in the backcountry include:
- slips and falls, resulting in a slide for life on smooth, slick snow surfaces
- rock and ice fall
- rough, variable snow surfaces
- open tree wells
Mountain Weather:
A warming trend will commence today, into Sunday. We will see easterly flow to the area, resulting in cold mornings and above normal daytime temperatures. Afternoon temperatures will increase by 5 to 10 degrees each day, peaking Sunday. High pressure aloft maintains control and will stay in charge through the weekend. Continued bone dry conditions are expected across the region for the next two weeks. Yes, we are going a little crazy around here. Not a drop of water has fallen from the sky since January 8th, and not just us, but the entire region. January will go down in the history books and the driest on record since at least 1895 for parts of California. Life is filled with inevitable ups and downs, and it's our attitude that determines how we ride the wave. Don't fight it, ride it!
