The good news is the snow is melting slowly, despite the warmer conditions. The snowpack is dense. Sand Flat has 11 inches of water content in 44 inches of snow.
We have been high and dry since January 8th. On the mountain, surfaces are ragged with wind effects, sun effects, and tracks. Ice and rockfall are the primary concern. Avalanches are not.
Snow surfaces are softening up by late morning to early afternoon. Sliders will find decent, smooth conditions if they look beyond the usual places. Climbing conditions are good. Climb early, wear a helmet, and keep your head up. Be prepared for icy slopes.
