In the last 24 hours on Mount Shasta, northeast winds have reached 22 mi/hr, with gusts up to 55. Temperatures have averaged 35 ºF. The Old Ski Bowl has 56 inches of snow.
A small storm blew through the area late last Friday. This laid down some snow in an unusual pattern. Some areas received up to 6" while other areas a few miles away got nothing. Ash Creek Butte had 4-5 inches in places on Monday, but it was not widespread and the upper bowl was scoured and wind rippled.
Though the new snow has smoothed things out a bit, sun and wind has begun to settle and shape it into the firm, rough, tired snowpack that has seen very little snow since January 8th.
No avalanche activity, wind slabs, or other instabilities associated with the new snow have been seen.

Northerly winds will continue to hammer the mountain today and tonight. Expect windy conditions all the way to town. A cold air mass moving in will keep temperatures below freezing. You may see some scattered clouds and flurries of snow first thing, but mostly clear skies will prevail.
