The pitter-patter of rain began in town late last night - enough to give the hope of new snow at high elevations, but the Old Ski Bowl is only reporting an inch which means what fell was wet. Nighttime lows were near 30 ºF. Snow water equivalent since the storm began is 0.18 in. West winds have been light to moderate during the precipitation event. It doesn't appear that Castle Lake, Mount Eddy, or Ash Creek Butte received any snow.
If you find any worthwhile new snow out there, remember that there was plenty of debris and rock on the snow surface before last night's weather.
Unfortunately, recent snow has not done much to improve our overall situation. It's been a very dry winter. It looks a lot like early summer out there. The lack of snowpack is beginning to limit the amount of options available for snow recreation. The photo below tells the tale. Ordinarily we'd start to watch for loose wet avalanches on southerly aspects this time of year, but most southerly aspects have melted out to bare ground and rock. Where there is snow below treeline it's littered with woody debris from strong winds over the past week. Climbing conditions still appear to be pretty good but rockfall is becoming an issue. This is the current state of affairs.

Mountain Weather:
Last night's precipitation is tapering off. A bit more rain and snow could fall this morning with up to an inch of snow possible. Clouds will begin to break this afternoon, though isolated snow and rain showers may linger. A cold front is beginning to pass through which will bring slightly cooler temperatures. West winds will be light below treeline but could be moderate to strong in exposed areas above.
A decent storm is in the cards for Saturday with snow levels below 5,000 ft, but it is too early to say for sure what it will bring.
