Recent Observations:
You might find dust on crust conditions up high today. About 0.04 inches of water fell yesterday but temperatures at 8,000 ft only touched freezing for a brief moment. Easterly winds were light throughout. There is 20 inches of snow at the Old Ski Bowl.
The only usable snow in the forecast area is above treeline on Mount Shasta. Expect about a 1/2 mile walk up from Bunny Flat to find continuous snow. Surfaces remain mostly smooth, though wind textured snow will be encountered in areas above treeline. Be prepared for firm conditions.
Mountain Weather:
High pressure will keep things mostly sunny and clear today, though there will probably be areas of low level fog. Cold air will be moving in, keeping the snowpack firm, and although a smidgen of precipitation might fall tomorrow, don't expect much change in weather until the weekend.
Hope is the worst of evils for it prolongs the torments of man. Nonetheless, a massive blob of low pressure is approaching from far out in the Pacific and it brings the promise of wintry weather. We will start seeing effects of this late Saturday. It may usher in the temperatures and precipitation needed to get us back on track for the season.
