Recent Observations: 

​​​​It's shark week within the forecast area. Avoiding rocks has been the primary name of the game. No avalanches have been reported or observed. While low density, soft snow remains in many areas below and near treeline, it is becoming a mixed bag of snow conditions above treeline. Westerly wind has created some texture and crust like surfaces making for tricky skiing, but as mentioned, the biggest hazard out there has been what you can't see lying just beneath the snow surface. Wind slabs still linger in isolated areas, but have not posed any serious risk to sliders and riders. With the next storm or two, we may begin to see more avalanche activity. Check out yesterday's observation from Castle Lake area.

Mountain Weather: 

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 10 AM PST Monday above 3,500 feet. The dynamic storm remains just offshore this morning and will nudge closer and the day progresses. Wind and snow are prominent weather features with this system. Snow will begin to pick up this evening, with snow levels hovering near 3,800 feet. California will absorb the brunt of the winter weather and snowfall should continue through Sunday as the low remains parked to the west. We could see 4 to 8 inches of snow in town by Monday morning, and likely more on the mountain.
