The classic Shasta charcuterie board is served! Soft powder, wind pack powder, sun and wind crusts...yum delicious! You'll find many snow conditions out there and low avalanche risk. Clear, blue sky with light and variable wind and valley fog has been the soup de jour. Inversions have kept temperatures 5-10 degrees cooler in Mount Shasta City than at 8,000 feet on the mountain. Previous northwest wind has created some wild surface textures above treeline. Near and below treeline, out of the wind, soft snow can be found. Coverage is good overall, and the feet of last week's storm snow is settling in nicely.

If a winter storm warning is music to your ears, then an air stagnation advisory is fingernails on the chalkboard. Clear and cold nights with crisp, sunny days ahead. Air stagnation advisories have been issued through Sunday as a result of motionless air. These symptoms are due to a high pressure ridge which continues to exert its influence on us. We will continue to see strong inversions and northerly flow bringing those frigid temps to many east side locations. This pattern will persist through Sunday, then a weak disturbance passes to our north. Longer term...12/18 through 12/22...offshore upper ridging will begin eroding, marking a shift towards a more active weather pattern. Fingers crossed.
