Recent Observations:
No avalanche activity or signs of unstable snow have been reported in many days. Wind slabs that formed earlier in the week have become nonreactive to triggering. It is a variable world out there. Good to poor surface conditions will be encountered. Slick and icy surfaces remain in some areas above treeline and on the upper mountain. Over the past 24 hours, temperatures ranged from 26° to 44°. Wind has blown predominantly out of the west, averaging 10 mi/hr with gusts to 36 mi/hr. Snow on the ground measures 129 inches.
Mountain Weather:
The southern portion of a front digs south into California. As a result, shower activity will linger over the area today into tonight. Snow levels will linger between 4,000 and 5,000 feet. At best, a few inches of new snow are possible in the mountains. Most of the energy will pass to our southwest. Shower activity will be minimal for our zone and shift to the east over the next 24 hours. High pressure rebuilds, drying the area out by Saturday afternoon and through the weekend. Temperatures will be near normal. The next systems arrive on Monday morning, followed by the second on Monday night into Tuesday morning. Significant impacts are not expected, but the high pressure ridge should displace and introduce much colder air into the region. The second, more impactful wave of weather on Tuesday looks to be like a decent low-elevation snow event. More on that later!
