Recent Observations:
No avalanche activity or signs of unstable snow have been reported or observed. Overnight, 2-4 inches of new snow fell in the mountains of the forecast area. Wind has blown predominantly out of the south and southeast, averaging 9 mi/hr with gusts to 36 mi/hr. Temperatures have ranged from 21° to 29° F. Yesterday, below and near treeline, wind was light to calm with no wind effect on the surface. Surprisingly soft snow could be found in the trees, while open areas had a surface sun crust. Above treeline, surface conditions are wind affected. Large sections of ice, hard sastrugi, and wind packed snow could be found across the upper Old Ski Bowl. Wind was light out of the south. Visibility was in and out due to low clouds.

Mountain Weather:
An upper low is positioned along the northern California coast, centered near the San Francisco Bay Area. This is bringing showers to southern Oregon and northern California. Showers are mainly light, with a few inches of new snow in the mountains. Snow levels dropped to as low as 2,500 feet. Models show the upper low gradually shifting southward later this morning into this afternoon, and weak high pressure building into the area. This will result in drier northeast flow setting up over the area and showers tapering off by this afternoon. The high pressure ridge will remain in place tonight into Sunday with dry weather, cold overnight/morning temperatures and mild to warm daytime temperatures. Sunday night and Monday, models continue to show a frontal system moving onshore across British Columbia and the PacNW. This will break down the ridge and bring a weak front into the area Sunday night. Then an upper trough will move into the region on Monday. This will result in light rain and snow, especially for areas from the Cascades west.
