Recent Observations:
"Unreal" is a term we've heard a couple of times with regard to the storm that brought three to four feet of fresh, low density snow to the area, mostly during the night of February 23rd and 24th. During a single one-hour period, six inches of snow fell. You might have skied around your neighborhood or snowmobiled down the road, but it's safe to say that just about nobody got out into the field. Double overhead snow blowing and plowing was the activity of the day. One intrepid local drove, yes drove up the Everitt (gate is still open, but travel up the road not advised) and made it to Windy Point, encountering an eight-foot drift there and very windy conditions. Two snowmobiles also rode mostly through the deep, extremely light snow to Bunny Flat area. They said they didn't see their snowmobiles all day. Several meaty slabs released off the roofs of the Forest Service station in town...that was about the extent of our observations. Needless to say, observations were limited yesterday. In the past 24 hours at treeline on Mount Shasta, temperatures have averaged 17° with a low of 12° and high of 26° F. Wind has blow predominantly out of the east, averaging 29 mi/hr with gusts to 67 mi/hr. Ten inches of new snow fell yesterday morning after the forecast was issued, bringing the storm total to 46 inches at treeline. Over on the west side in the Eddy Mountains, the storm total was 36 inches.

Mountain Weather:
A cold and clear night will give way to a mild day as upper level ridging briefly builds. Easterly wind will be gusty and continue to move snow around. This will be short-lived, however, as another series of cold winter storms is expected to move into the area Sunday into early next week. Winter storm watches are up for the mountains of Siskiyou County above 2,500 feet. Snow levels could lower to around 1,500 feet Sunday morning as a sharp cold front moves through. A stronger and wetter system will move in Monday and Monday night. More winter headlines are likely for that one. In short, two more storms are coming on Sunday and Monday, so gas up those snowblowers and wax those skis because a winter revival series is rockin'.
