Recent Observations:
In the last 24 hours, Mount Shasta has received a little over 2 inches of snow (0.52 SWE). Temperatures have been in the mid-twenties during the storm which arrived around 2 p.m. yesterday. Southerly winds have been mostly light, though briefly strong with a maximum recorded gust of 43 mi/hr.
A thin, breakable crust exists near and below treeline on top of low density snow in open areas exposed to the sun.
The upper mountain has been hammered by winds. Chalky, wind-textured surface snow is widespread. Moraines and ridges are scoured and have exposed rocks. See the photo below of Avalanche Gulch as the storm was coming in.
Pilgrim Creek and Deer Mountain Snowmobile Parks are open. Road 19 has thin, icy snow until the first fork. After that, there's plenty of usable snow. No obstructions along the trails were encountered out to Ash Creek Butte.

Mountain Weather:
A winter storm warning is in effect from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. tomorrow above 4,000 ft. Be prepared for strong southerly winds and dangerous wind chills near and above treeline.
In the next 24 hours, 10-19 inches of snow could fall above 4,000 ft. The bulk of the snow will come after after 4 p.m.
Things will taper off tomorrow and then turn back on Friday as snow levels drop to town. Snow is in the forecast daily for the foreseeable future. Expect a white Christmas.
