Snowpack Observations

Details

A variety of overall good snow conditions will be met out in the Ash Creek Butte area. Near and above treeline has been affected by north wind. Snow surface conditions are variable. Fresh wind slabs were easily triggered on Tuesday the 17th. Wind blowing snow was active. Below treeline, soft snow conditions still reside. The snow depth averages 150 inches. Cornices are giant along ridges and should be avoided. Huge settlement cracks are also visible along ridges and around trees. Tree wells are large. Overall, the coverage is awesome. Rime ice is thick and trees/rocks are completely plastered. Watch for falling rime ice on sun exposed aspects

Grooming has been active on the Tri-Forest Snowmobile Trails. Unfortunately, the Esperanza road is in terrible condition (pot holes) to access Pilgrim Creek Sno-Park. Word on the street is the Esperanza road is to be graded soon. Consider Deer Mountain as an alternative in the meantime.
