Snowpack Observations

Details

A quick dig in the snow... 82 cm total depth, 70-90 cm of snow in area. Rime on rocks and trees in exposed areas. Icy sheen on ridgelines, wind packed powder, firm. Cold, northerly aspects holding some soft snow still. Most locations exposed to sun and especially below 7,000 feet held breakable crust. No signs of existing avalanche debris from early season storms, no new signs of instability. Difficult to identify a layer of concern at this point, pretty bomber snowpack.
