Snowpack Observations

Details

A warm day today with no wind. Things heated up today to a balmy 43 °F at treeline on Mt. Shasta. Temperatures reached 52°F near treeline over on the west side in the Castle Lake / Eddy Mountains, also no wind. Snow surfaces softened up higher than 12,000 feet on south facing slopes. That said, smooth surfaces are hard to find. Climbing conditions are good, but some small rockfall was observed.

A strong northwest wind event is expected on the mountain Sunday, with very cold temperatures. Beware.
