Snowpack Observations

Details

Avalanche Gulch is locked up tight. No avalanche concerns there. Snow surface is a mix of wind hardened snow, sastrugis, and melt-freeze crusts. Your skis won't sink but your boots may up to your ankles in places. Spring conditions are just about in. Enough sun filtered through high clouds to soften up snow in its direct path. Some smooth turns could be found after 1:00 p.m. Snow depth in Climber's Gully reached 78 in (200 cm).

Below the Trinity Chutes and around The Heart, the snow has been pummeled by south winds. Not much evidence of ice fall was seen, but there is plenty of rime spackled on the Red Banks waiting to bowl you over on a warm afternoon.
