Snowpack Observations

Details

East of Gray Butte, snow showers were creating a mix of sun, clouds, light snow, and heavy snow. Snow totals since Monday ranged from 1-4 inches. New snow was low density and unbonded to the old hard pack underneath. Winds were calm to light and no wind drifts or slabs were seen. No blowing snow was observed on ridge-tops around Gray Butte.  Small sloughs were possible on steep slopes. Low angle open areas offered best sliding conditions.  Snow was thin under trees and old surfaces littered with obstacles. Height of snow near Red Butte was 65 in (165 cm).
