Snowpack Observations

Details

Castle Lake still holds enough usable snow for winter recreation. Manzanitta is poking out of the snowpack in a lot of places and bare ground is exposed around trees, but creative skiers will still find a way and may even be rewarded with some decent sliding conditions. Ski penetration is up to 1-2 inches into sun-softened snow from the last couple of precipitation events. The height of snow along ridge tops ranges from 25-40 inches (64-100 cm). The lake is now devoid of snow, edges are melted out, and the ice is not trustworthy.
