Details

Observations around Castle Lake:

  • The height of storm snow (HST): 4 inches (10 cm) 1-2 inches of light snow sitting atop a crust above rounding precipitation particles from earlier in the storm. All this sits atop a 1-inch thick crust. 
  • The height of snow (HS): 325 cm
  • Variable surface textures; wind textured, hard supportable crusts, soft rounding snow. 
  • Large overhanging cornice features have formed on the ridge above Heart Lake
  • No signs of instability
