Snowpack Observations

Details

Observations around Castle Lake:

  • The height of storm snow (HST): 11 inches (23 cm) 
  • The height of snow (HS): 325 cm
  • Soft surface textures becoming sticky, hard windboard on Center Peak ridge
  • Some wind effect and small drifts in open areas  (< 1 foot deep)
  • Rollerballs and pinwheels would release below skis even on north facing terrain
  • Cornice features were reactive to ski cuts but only in the top foot or two of new snow
  • No avalanches observed

  • Misty rain/snow began to fall at 12:30 p.m.
  • Light south wind on the ridgeline otherwise calm conditions were observed
