Snowpack Observations

Details

Conditions at Castle Lake:

  • Road closed, 2-3 in. of fresh snow on the pavement past gate.  Only one lane plowed past the Methodist camp. 
  • Strong northerly winds on ridges blowing snow. 
  • Height of snow: 90 in.
  • Surface textures ranged from wind packed on the ridgeline, dust on crust, and soft powder in protected areas. 
  • The air temperature was in the low 20s at 5,000 feet this afternoon.
