SKY: Obscured 100%, low visibility, flat light

PRECIP: Yes, S1 (.5 in/hr) At 8,500 feet.

BLOWING SNOW: Yes,  Moderate, SW

Air Temp:   17 deg F

SURF PEN: 7 inches (boot) 

Height of snowpack (HS): 53 inches

Height of new snow (HS): 1-2 inches on top of a number of sun/rain crusts.

Wind: Yes, out of the southwest, a steady 10 mph wind near treeline. Gusts to 15 mph.

NOTES: Cold and light snow began falling after noon. Visibility was very difficult and the flat light made for tough  observations above treeline. A number of sun and melt freeze crust exist below the new snow all above the Dec 19th ice layer, 7 inches down from surface. Column block test yielded no significant results.
