Details

Mount Shasta:

  • 2 feet (60 cm) snow at Old Ski Bowl weather station
  • Thin snowpack below treeline, many obstacles like rocks, trees, bushes
  • Better coverage near/above treeline
  • Overall variable, firm snow surfaces
  • Rime ice abundant on exposed rocks on upper mountain

Castle Lake Area:

  • No snow
  • Lake is completely melted

Eddy Mountains:

  • Variable coverage pending aspect
  • 6-12 in (15-30 cm) average depth where snow exists, near/above treeline, hard, supportable
  • One is able to drive with high clearance 4WD to Parks Creek Summit, 9.3 miles from Stewart Springs.
  • Snow encountered at 7.0 miles
  • Winter recreation not possible yet
