Can't make it to the party but want to support the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center? We'll miss you, but we still appreciate you! You can donate by going to THIS LINK. Early giving goes live on November 18th, and the big show kicks off on December 3rd.

Come mingle with all your backcountry besties at the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center's annual season-kickoff and Giving Tuesday Party! It's a chance to catch up with your friends from the Avalanche Center and the community, speculate on what a great winter we're going to have, knock back a cold one or two and, best of all, you get to support the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center!

This year's Giving Tuesday Party will be taking place at Theory Coffee Roasters, right in downtown Mount Shasta. We'll have food and drinks, as well as live music, raffles, and some pretty cool swag for you to pick up, right before the holidays!

**Happening at Deadwood Supply Co in downtown Mt Shasta!**

Know Before You Go is a free avalanche awareness program. Not much science, no warnings to stay out of the mountains, no formulas to memorize. In 1 hour, you will see the destructive power of avalanches, understand when and why they happen, and how you can have fun in the mountains and avoid avalanches.

The high energy videos and the jaw-dropping slide show, along with the Q&A chat with an avalanche professional, takes the breath away from adults, children, and everyone in between.

The KBYG program has 3 parts, an 18 minute video, a slide show, and a Q&A session, all led by a local avalanche professional. The images are eye-catching and pack a punch. Viewers see the destructive power of avalanches, how people get in trouble, and the basics of how to avoid them, all through the eyes of avalanche professionals, pro athletes, accident victims and rescuers, and their peers. We don't preach and we don't tell skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers to stay home - we encourage them to get some education to get out and have fun safely.

Avalanche transceivers, or beacons, are the best tools we have to find someone buried in an avalanche. Join us and learn how to use one and effectively carry out a companion rescue. It is also a great chance to brush up on your skills. Don't yet have a beacon of your own? Not to worry! We'll have several different types (BCA, Ortovox, Pieps, Mammut/Barryvox) for you to try out. Dress to be outside on the snow. Think warm footwear and gloves! These clinics take place at the Bunny Flat meadow area. Look for our flags!

Don't want to listen to us yak away? You can still come and run through the beacon courses a few times to hone your rescue skills. It's always good to refresh your skills at the beginning of every season. Remember, YOU are the rescue party! Get dialed.

We'll meet at the Bunny Flat parking lot/trailhead about 9 am. Look for the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center flags!

Come fire up your snow-brain and get stoked for another wonderful season in our little slice of paradise. The Mount Shasta Avalanche Center is pleased to welcome you to our first Community Movie Night of the 2025.2026 season!

The doors will open at 5:30 pm and the film will start about 7 pm. (Or maybe that's when we'll start raffles?)

Price is $15 or $10 for members. Not a member yet for the 2025.2026 season? You can either go HERE  to make a donation for your membership, or purchase your membership at the movie night!

We will have food and drink available for purchase, plenty of merch for holiday presents, and some sweet raffle prizes to ensure you don't go home empty-handed!

Check out below for a description of this action-packed flick. You can also check out the OFFICIAL TRAILER if you are so inclined.

"Opening on a quiet, storm-buried morning, After The Snowfall is a high-octane and heartfelt journey through the culture and chaos of modern skiing. Filmed in stunning locations from the Lyngen Alps of Norway to the heli-accessed steeps of British Columbia, the film showcases an elite crew of skiers, including Michelle Parker, Nikolai Schirmer, Nico Porteous, Caite Zeliff, and more, pushing boundaries with jaw-dropping style and skill.

But this is not just a story about pros. It is about the everyday ski bum, the weekend warrior, and the mountain town lifer whose passion burns just as bright. Interwoven throughout the action are honest and irreverent reflections from both athletes and everyday skiers on what skiing means to them; why they risk injury, chase fleeting storms, and build their lives around snow. The film explores both the literal mountains they climb and the internal terrain they navigate: personal growth, camaraderie, obsession, and joy.

With Matchstick Productions’ signature blend of cinematic artistry and raw stoke, After The Snowfall is a reminder that skiing is more than a sport, it is a way of life. Presented by Toyota and supported by The North Face, Ikon Pass, and Stanley, this film is a tribute to the people, places, and powder turns that make it all worth it."

The Mount Shasta Avalanche Center will host an avalanche awareness and companion rescue class specifically for snowmobilers!

Spend the day with MSAC professionals as we provide you with avalanche and rescue information specifically catered toward the snowmobiler's mind.

Meet MSAC educators at the Deer Mountain warming hut at 9 am. All riders will get to watch the award-winning Know Before You Go presentation before jumping on their sleds and spending the remainder of the day practicing beacon, shovel and probe skills, terrain identification and management, and scenarios! If you don't have a beacon, shovel and probe, no problem! We will have some for you to use, but...you should get this equipment soon! Demos of several different beacon styles will be available and MSAC staff can help you decide what gear is best for you. This course is not to be missed, free of charge, and does not require a registration.

This is an in-person Know Before You Go avalanche awareness presentation at Redding Sports LTD.

Know Before You Go is a free avalanche awareness program. Not too much science, no warnings to stay out of the mountains, and no formulas to memorize. In a little over an hour, you will see the destructive power of avalanches, understand when and why they happen and, most importantly, how you can safely have fun in the mountains and avoid avalanches.

The high energy videos and the jaw-dropping slide show, along with the Q&A chat with an avalanche professional, takes the breath away from adults, children, and everyone in between. Viewers see the destructive power of avalanches, how people get in trouble, ande basics of how to avoid them, all through the eyes of avalanche professionals, pro athletes, accident victims and rescuers, and their peers. We don't preach and we certainly don't tell skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers to stay home - rather we encourage them to get some education to get out and have fun safely.

Our site and link will be up and running before you know it!

The 6th Annual MSAC Virtual Silent Auction is back! Not to worry, the Silent auction will be held online to ensure that everyone gets a chance to snag some sweet auction items. We will have the items in person at the Snow Ball. So, if you're around, come on by to place some bids and take home your awesome items!

Bid on items in the Silent Auction, ranging from fly-fishing trips to backcountry gear, and just about everything in between. Items will be added nearly every week from now until the start of the Silent Auction on Sunday,  January 18th.  Let's be real, we'll probably be adding items throughout that week, too.

Take a look and make sure you've got your plan to maximize your bids and help support the Mt. Shasta Avalanche Center.

01/24/2026 - 10:00am to 1:00pm

Registration will open soon! Once it does, we will have a link to the registration page right here. This year's theme is "Cosmic Ascension", so put out a call to all your interstellar friends and tell them to get on down here for the most fun anyone has had on skis since the IOC started drug-testing.

The Friends of the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center and the Mount Shasta Ski Park present the 12th annual Shasta Ascension backcountry ski and splitboard race.

Just a heads-up, we've added a Heavy Metal category! Bust out the leather pants and hairspray, 'cause it's your time to shine. (check the registration pages for details on gear weights)

The race follows a traditional ski-mo (ski mountaineering) format of a timed event that follows an established trail through challenging winter alpine terrain while passing through a series of checkpoints. Racers climb and descend under their own power using backcountry skiing equipment and techniques.

Randonee, telemark, and split boards are welcome. Racers should be comfortable climbing and descending advanced terrain. New last year and baqck again, we've added categories for the groms! Got a youngster at home that charges harder than you do, (no shame, they all do) get 'em signed up for the Shasta Ascension Junior Course!

Other Activities

The Fifth Season will be sponsoring a backcountry ski demo day. Leading companies representing backcountry ski gear are invited to attend. Demo the very best in ski mountaineering/randonee gear available on the market today for no charge (valid driver’s license and credit card required).

The Snow Ball will be happening at the City Park. This year's musical guest is Scott Pemberton! Tickets are available at The Fifth Season starting in December, or at the Ascension Race itself.

Additionally, back by popular demand, the Silent Auction will be virtual! Bid on items in the Silent Auction ranging from fly-fishing trips to backcountry gear, and just about everything in-between. Items will be added nearly every week from now until the start of the Silent Auction. Take a look and make sure you've got your plan to maximize your bids and help support the Avalanche Center. Open from January 18th through January 24th. If you're at the Snow Ball, you can take your winning items home with you!
