Recent Observations:
No new avalanches have been reported by forecasters or the public since the events of last weekend. (Dec 10/11) The graupel layer that fell on Friday, December 9th is bonding well to the existing snowpack in areas we investigated yesterday. The lower overall depth of the snowpack on SW through SE facing slopes has allowed for greater penetration of solar radiation, causing the weak layer to break down and more strongly adhere to existing layers. In areas above treeline that see a bit more wind, this has led to greatly reduced activity at that graupel layer.
Mountain Weather:
A bit more wind will blow in from the north, but that's about all it's bringing for the time being. There does not appear to be any precip coming before Sunday at the earliest. Above treeline, expect winds to increase over the next few days. Beyond that we're in a bit of a wait and see. For now, get out there to enjoy the sunshine and our almost exactly average snowpack for this time of year.
