Recent Observations:
Observations from yesterday on Green Butte and Gray Butte held themes of crusty surface conditions with a bit of snow on top. Tuesday's weather squall delivered 1.5 inches of new snow, which fell on top of a variety of old snow surfaces. New snow may not bond well to these irregular surfaces and act as a good sliding surface for new snow. Over the last 24 hours, winds have averaged in the single digits out of the W-SW, with a max gust of 30 mph overnight. Near treeline, protected east aspects held the best snow conditions from recent northerly winds, and dry loose snow was easy to move in steep protected areas.

Mountain Weather:
The winter weather advisory has ended across Siskiyou County early, as showers have let up. New snow amounts will generally be below one inch. A short-lived prevailing storm pulse passed through the region Tuesday, bringing 1.5 inches to Mount Shasta. Another weather pulse will pass through the area starting midday today, with lite precipitation amounts. These are precursors to the robust low-pressure system approaching from the west-southwest and looking to arrive on Wednesday. Today through Wednesday, temperatures look to remain below freezing above 6,000 feet, with moderate to strong winds trending slightly to S-SE. If all pans out well, we could see 5-8 inches of new snow in the next 24 hours.
