Recent Observations:
Over the last 24 hours winds have blown out of the northwest and have been blowing at moderate to strong speeds near and above treeline. These winds have had the largest impacts above treeline on Mount Shasta and have crafted highly variable firm and slick surface conditions. A tour up powder bowl yesterday discovered that wind had scoured patches of snow mid-slope on west and south aspects, leaving behind a thin ice glaze. Blowing snow onto southerly aspects was experienced off ridgelines and cornices. Snowdrifts near treeline remained firm and stubborn to initiate any signs of instability. Surfaces that have seen recent sun are beginning to develop a melt-freeze crust near and below treeline.

Mountain Weather:
High pressure will be in control today keeping the area dry. Valley fog and high clouds will disperse leading to sunny skies. Freezing levels will hover around 7,000 feet with light to moderate northwest winds. This pattern will extend until mid-day Thursday, then transition to the arrival of the next storm system. Mountain temperatures have remained warm overnight with a high of 34 degrees. Winds have been blowing from the northwest at moderate speeds with gusts reaching 49 mph.
