Recent Observations:
Over the past 24 hours, warm temperatures and calm to light winds provided pleasant weather to the Mount Shasta region. Thin high level clouds covered the forecast area through the day. Yesterday's observations from Gray Butte showed a warming trend, with deteriorating snow surfaces in sun and wind exposed areas near and below treeline. Near treeline, the snow surface is a combination of firm wind board and scoured ice patches, with a crumbly melt freeze surface crust prevalent on solar aspects. Below treeline is providing the best option for sliding and riding, where soft snow can still be found in sheltered area. Above treeline is where surfaces become much more variable. Expect everything from large ice patches to hard wind board and sastrugi on all aspects. Soft wind blown snow can be found in gully features.
No avalanche activity has been observed or reported in the last few days.

Mountain Weather:
A large high pressure is centered over the eastern pacific, dominating the weather of Siskiyou county today through Monday. A "dirty ridge" will provide northwest flow for the Mount Shasta area, bringing high level clouds, though slightly thinner cloud cover compared to yesterday. Light to moderate winds will remain out of the north. Strong winds are expected at upper elevations above treeline. Afternoon temperatures are expected to be a little warmer than yesterday, with highs of 50's and 60's in town and a freezing level around 5,100 feet. Tonight, temperatures will be warmer than previous days, with freezing levels rising to 7,100 feet. Enjoy the last couple of days of seasonably warm weather, a change in weather pattern is coming. A front is expected late Monday, changing our weather pattern to a more stormy trend for the next few days.
