Recent Observations:
Over the past 24 hours, southerly flow brought continuing snow to Siskiyou County. Snow and cloud cover prevailed through yesterday morning. Snow ceased around 1pm, and the sun popped out, bringing warm temperatures through the afternoon. Winds slowly shifted from southerly flow, to more westerly, and now northerly winds with upper level ridging over the region. There were a variety of observations made yesterday with new snow on the ground. Eric and I assessed conditions in the Old Ski Bowl, where we found deep snow with no wind effect in the bowl and some moderate wind drifts on ridges. Near treeline, slight settling of the snowpack was felt under skis while touring up a southeast facing knoll. Near and above treeline, shallow, isolated wind slabs along exposed ridgelines could be triggered with skis.
Another party assessed conditions on the west face of Gray Butte. More snow than expected was found, 12 inches of new snow near the summit. The party was able to trigger a small wind pillow and slab in a chute feature near treeline. One other party made their way to the Eddy mountains, where they triggered a large cornice on a north facing aspect, at 7,000 feet, below treeline.

Mountain Weather:
Upper level ridging will dominate the Mount Shasta area over the next 24 hours, bringing calm, dry weather. Clouds will slowly develop through the day with light northerly winds. Expect seasonably cool temperatures this morning with a slight temperature inversion in town, pushing out to warmer temperatures in the afternoon. Freezing levels will start at the base this morning, rising to 4,600 feet this evening. High pressure will remain in the region till at least the weekend.
