Recent Observations:
In the last 24 hours, the cold temperatures and scattered showers continued across the Mount Shasta region. As of 3 am, Gray Butte is recording a temp of 8 degrees F. Wind chill values are in the negatives. Old Ski Bowl has recorded one inch of new snow overnight. Moderate winds have continued to blow out of the northwest.
Yesterday's observations are from the Cliff Lake area. The shifting winds have really done some work there. All slopes have some form of wind effect across it, leaving some pretty extreme surface variability. Some more exposed areas held shallow wind slabs that were reactive to ski cuts on steep slopes. These wind slabs remained isolated to terrain feature, and slope angle. Wind transport was observed depositing onto all southerly aspects. Compared to other recently observed areas across Mount Shasta, this zone saw very little recent snow. There was some variability due to wind, but generally there was about two inches of new snow on top of firm old snow. Most steep slopes have shed recently, avalanche debris was found on north, east, and west facing aspects.

Mountain Weather:
Scattered showers and cold temperatures overnight have given us a dusting of snow this morning. Unseasonably cold temperatures will continue today, with northwest flow aloft. Mostly sunny skies are expected through the day. Winds will remain light to moderate out of the northwest, with strong winds possible above treeline. Tonight, the approaching weather system will begin to show across Siskiyou county. Winds will begin to ramp up, clouds will build, and light snowfall is possible by Monday morning. The approaching system will peak on Monday night and Tuesday morning, providing one to two feet of snow on to the I-5. A winter storm watch has been issued. Expect more snow in the mountains, some areas could see up to three feet.
