Recent Observations:
An extreme wind event beginning on January 22nd has largely impacted the mountain's snowpack, and devastated high-elevation riding conditions. Yesterday's observation noted a large natural avalanche at the top of Cascade Gulch, with a couple of smaller natural slides, observed the day before. All of these avalanches occurred on a south, southwest aspect above treeline. These observations are stark indicators of previous weather and current snowpack conditions. Sunny skies and temperatures almost hitting 40 degrees near treeline yesterday significantly moistened the top layer of the snow surface. Variable conditions of wind effected snow were found in the alpine.

Mountain Weather:
Temperatures remain inverted this morning and will break down as the day progresses. An upper ridge with a dry and stable air mass will remain overhead through Wednesday. Therefore, very little change in the weather is expected. Notably warm temperatures averaging 36 degrees have remained in place over the last 24 hrs near 8,000 ft. North winds have averaged 15 mph with a gust of 61 mph. Sunny skies and warm temperatures with light to moderate north winds will be the theme of today.
